(New York) A 2003 Viburnum High School graduate and former Blue Jay cross country runner will be running in the biggest race of his life this Sunday.

It won’t be a 3-mile race but a 26.2 mile marathon for Justin Mayfield.

And it’s not just any marathon…it’s the New York City Marathon.

We asked Justin, who now lives near Springfield, Missouri, why he decided to do this.

Mayfield has ran one marathon in Springfield with around 400 total runners.

We asked him about the chaos of thousands of runners he will be competing with on Sunday.

We asked Justin what it is about the Viburnum area and it’s many years of good long-distance runners.

Justin Mayfield’s goal in Sunday’s race is to beat his best marathon time of 4 hours and 55 minutes.

You can watch live coverage of Sunday’s New York City Marathon on ESPN2 8 until 11 a.m.

Live coverage throughout the race will be streamed nationally on ESPN3.
