(HILLSBORO) The historic Hillsboro boys soccer season came to an end today in the Class 3 State Quarterfinals as Webster Groves defeated the Hawks 4-1 on the MYMOINFO SPORTS STREAM.

The Statesmen surprised the Hawks within the first 6 minutes with a goal from the left-footed Owen Culver. Before the Hawks knew it, Webster Groves was up two.

The Statesmen took a 2-0 lead into the break. The next two goals belonged to Webster Groves with a right-footed shot from close range from Ben Winkelmann and then this beauty off a free kick.

The final goal of the match though came from Hillsboro’s Mark Moore.

That was the 35th goal of the senior season for Moore and the 73rd of his career, the most in Hillsboro soccer history. Hawks head coach Chris Schacht credits senior leadership for the success of the program.

No Hillsboro team had ever advanced to a state quarterfinal match until this year. The season though ends at 19-6-1. Webster Groves improves to 20-6 and advances to the Class 3 State Semifinals for the 4th time since 2014.
