Werner Sets 1500m PR with 10th Place Finish at the Music City Distance Carnival

(Ste. Genevieve) University of Arkansas runner Taylor Werner was back in action this past weekend and put together a strong performance at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville.

The former Ste. Genevieve Dragon stopped the clock in the 1500-meter race at 4:13:53, which was good enough for a 10th place finish.

Werner says running in her first competitive race in months and doing so with an extremely talented field brought on some pre-race jitters.

Even though she was racing against some of the top professional runners in the country, Werner says the nerves dissipated once the race began and she was able to run fearlessly.

The MCDC race was a “rust buster” for Werner – an opportunity to bust the rust off the wheels and get used to running in a competitive field again.

Apparently she didn’t get that memo because her time of 4:13:53 was a career-best and a new personal record.

Werner says she was excited with a PR in a rust-buster race, but she’s even more motivated now because she thinks she can do better.

Werner is currently back on campus in Fayetteville, Arkansas with her Razorbacks coaches and teammates as they await more information on the upcoming track and cross country seasons.

However, she will have the opportunity to run competitively again this coming weekend when she participates in the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis on Saturday.
