(FESTUS) The West County baseball team secures its second consecutive Class 3 District 3 championship with a 6-3 win today over the St. Pius Lancers.

With the Lancers leading 1-0 in the top of the 1st inning, senior 1st baseman Ryan Almany provides a 2-run cushion with a base hit.

West County responds with a three-spot in the bottom of the 1st to take a 3-2 lead. With the score 4-3 Bulldogs in the top of the 6th and St. Pius batting, right fielder Peyton Nipper flashes the leather to end the scoring threat.

The Bulldogs then proceed to add a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th, allowing Zach Francis to comfortably finish out the complete game victory. St. Pius head coach Jerry Woods sings his praises of Almany, his only senior.

West County head coach John Simily enjoyed the way his guys put tough at-bats together against a talented Jeremy Isenman.

The now 16-4 Bulldogs advance to the Class 3 State Sectionals next week to face either Herculaneum or Hancock out of District 4. St. Pius sees its season come to an end at 19-3.
