West County Baseball Advances to Quarters With 8 Inning Sectional Win

(Frankclay) After defeating top ranked Valle Catholic for a district title, West County beat 9th ranked Valley Park 3-0 in 8 innings to advance to the Class Three State Quarterfinal in a KREI classic from Frankclay. For six innings the Bulldog’s Caden Merrell and the Hawk’s Isaiah Rose were locked in a pitching battle. Rose left after six, giving up only two hits and no runs. Merrill went the distance throwing 66 strikes on 92 pitches. He struck out eight and walked no one. West County stranded 11 runners over the first seven innings, but the number nine hitter in their lineup came up with the clutch hit…

Merrell drove in the third run two batters later and then went back to the hill to complete the victory…

Bulldogs coach Bobby Simily says the senior righty has been a stud in the postseason…

And the other senior gave them the only runs they needed…

The 7th ranked and 20-4 Bulldogs will play at 33-2 and number one Portageville on Thursday. We’ll broadcast the game on AM 800 KREI.
