West County Baseball Hosts Valley Of Caledonia On KREI

(Leadwood) The MAAA regular season will wrap up Tuesday with the large and small schools playing their final conference games. West County and the Valley of Caledonia play Tuesday afternoon and are tied for second place in the small school standings. We’ll have the call on AM-800 KREI. West County are 12-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs have strung together seven straight wins in the past two weeks. Coach Bobby Simily credits the consistent play to simply being able to be outside.

Valley sit at 9-2 on the season. It’s quite the turnaround after going 4-12 last year. One of the reasons for the Vikings’ great season has been senior Colby Maxwell, who coach Trent Hartley says has been playing very well as of late.

Maxwell will have the ball on Tuesday. West County has had the Vikings’ number dating back to 2010. In that span, they’ve played 34 times between the fall and spring seasons. West County has won 33 times. Valley won 4-3 in a September 2017 matchup. But the Vikings are playing well right now, and Hartley thinks confidence has been the difference.

Valley will head to West County with first pitch at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. Coverage on KREI begins at 4:15.
