West County looks to top Woodland for trip to state hoops semis on KREI

(Farmington) It’s been a season of milestones for the West County Bulldogs.

Now comes perhaps the biggest of all.

A trip to the Final 4 is on the line when West County faces Woodland in the Class 3 girls’ basketball state quarterfinals Saturday on KREI.

West County won back-to-back district titles behind a tenacious defense that gives up less than 34 points per game.

Behind junior stars like Bailey Skiles and Morgan and Alivia Simily, the Bulldogs are 23-4 and coming off their first-ever state playoff win.

But the postseason has been full of dramatic finishes, like a last-second victory over Grandview in the District 3 title game, and a 5-point win against St. Pius in the state sectionals.

Bulldogs head coach Bobby Simily says those kind of games are what championship teams are made of.

The Woodland Cardinals are 15-11 and have won back-to-back district championships.

West County and Woodland meet for a spot in the Class 3 state semifinals Saturday afternoon.

Coverage begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 12:45 on AM 800 KREI.
