West County Prepares For State Sectionals

The West County boys’ basketball team will face Maplewood-Richmond Hts. in the sectional round of the MSHSAA Class 3 State Tournament on Monday night.

The 15-11 Bulldogs advanced to the state playoffs by winning the District 3 tournament. They did so with a thrilling 61-60 win over Jefferson on Friday, in which they trailed by as much as 16 and by 14 entering the fourth quarter. West County head coach Chris LaBruyere praised his team’s resilience.

Before West County’s opponent was known, LaBruyere also discussed the quick turnaround for the next game.

Maplewood-Richmond Hts. is 15-12 on the year. The Blue Devils won District 4 as the top seed and capped off their district tournament run with a 45-36 win over three seed Brentwood. West County and Maplewood-Richmond Hts. last played each other in 2009, which was also a Class 3 State Tournament contest. Maplewood-Richmond Hts. won that game by a score of 71-32.
