West County Sweeps MAAA Small School Division With Win Over AV

(Ironton) The West County Lady Bulldogs completed the clean sweep against the MAAA Small School Division defeating Arcadia Valley 77-49. The Bulldogs came out of the gate hot, going on a 15-2 run with some sharpshooting from Junior Guard Lilly James.

But Acradia Valley wouldn’t go quietly into the night, as the Lady Tigers Junior Guard Katelyn Strange heated up for 12 points in the second quarter and cut the West County lead down to nine at halftime.

After the halftime break though, Lady Bulldogs Junior Forward Bailey Skiles activated her takeover and scored 20 of West County’s 23 3rd Quarter points to expand the lead to 19.

The Lady Tigers fought but couldn’t manage to cut into the deficit. Skiles was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 29 total points and was 8 points away from tying a MSHSAA record for most points in a single quarter. Lady Bulldogs Coach Bobby Simily says his team played much better in the second half.

AV’s Strange scored a career-high 27 points in the loss. West County improves to 16-3 and faces Desoto tonight. Arcadia Valley falls to 3-15 and will host Jefferson tomorrow barring any inclement weather.
