While COVID-19 Cases are up, County Remains in Yellow Status

(Jefferson County) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released its week 26 health update.

Jefferson County remains in the yellow status for daily COVID-19 cases; however, the positive rate continues to increase.

With the official week 26 update, here’s Jefferson County Health Department spokeswoman Brianne Zwiener.

With the Delta variant of COVID running rampant across southwest Missouri, we asked Zwiener if any cases have been reported locally in the county.

Health officials advise the best precaution you can take against COVID is to get vaccinated and continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene.

So far nearly 30 percent of eligible residents have been fully vaccinated in Jefferson County. That’s more than 67,000 people.

As of Thursday, the Jefferson County Health Department reported 42 new cases of Covid-19 in the county.

The total number of positive cases stands at 24,207 since March of last year.

The active cases sits at 196, and there have been 255 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
