Who pays for fallen trees?

Several homes and buildings in the area were damaged by fallen trees from the Saturday night storms. In most cases, homeowners insurance will handle the cost of the damage, but not always. Crystal City Attorney Scott Harness says if it’s a healthy tree on the neighbors’ property that strikes your home or car….you should be okay.

Harness says if there was a tree that was dead or damaged that sits on your property and you had prior knowledge of the issue and perhaps your neighbor made you aware of it through a letter or other notification, then it could be a costly issue for you.

A countless number of trees in Jefferson County were either snapped and blew over or were uprooted from the strong winds in excess of 100 miles an hour from the storms on Saturday night.
