William “Earl” Cook Sr. of Festus passed away on Friday, he was 80 years old.

He served as the mayor of Festus from 2009 to 2011, was a Ward 4 councilman, and served on the Festus Public Water Board, and the Festus Tourism Board. He was the treasurer of Giving Something Back to the Community group, President of the Cultural Diversity organization, recipient of the Twin City Distinguished Service Award in 2014, and inducted into the Festus High School 2020 Hall of Fame.

He was former U.S. Marine, retired as a maintenance engineer supervisor from Dow Chemical, worked at Taco Bell for 17 years, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Rhonda, sons; Earl Jr. of Festus, Chikosi of Festus, and Syed Ali Abbas of Chicago, daughters; Tamyka Cook of Festus, Lea Hamilton of Overland, Kaniz Abbas of Crystal City, and Alishah Abbas of Festus, one brother, three sisters, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

There will be an outdoor drive-by viewing for Earl Cook on Saturday from noon to 2 at the Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus. Burial in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date.
