(HILLSBORO) The Windsor boys soccer team beat Hillsboro 2-1 in overtime Thursday night on KJFF, making them back-to-back Class 3 District 2 champions for the first time in program history. On a cold and wet Hillsboro stadium turf, the Owls and Hawks played to a first half 0-0 draw. Around the 24-minute mark of the 2nd half, Hillsboro got the first goal of the game.

The equalizer came shortly after thanks to a penalty awarded to the Owls when Tanner Berry was fouled in the 18-yard box. Jake Mahon stepped up and converted the penalty kick.

The game went to O-T with the score 1-1. Halfway through the overtime period, Mahon delivered the perfect pass on a free kick.

Mahon reveals what he was thinking about the moment he saw Berry score the game-winning goal.

Windsor head coach Chris Krueger gives his take on the free kick and goal by Mahon and Berry.

Hillsboro finishes 2018 with a 9-11-2 record. In the meantime, District 2 champion Windsor moves on to the Class 3 Sectionals on Tuesday for its first match this season against District 1 winners in Farmington.
