(Imperial) An impressive athletic career for Derek Williams with the Windsor Owls ended with some big-time accolades.
After being named to the Regional Radio Dream Team for football in the fall, Williams was somehow even better in the spring, being named the Dream Team Baseball Player of the Year.
Williams was named the JCAA Large-School Division Co-Player of the Year for dominating as both a hitter and a pitcher.
But he says this honor means a lot because he knows there’s a lot of strong competition to make the Dream Team.
Williams was the most powerful bat in any lineup in Jefferson County this season.
The senior hit .463 and bashed 22 total extra-base hits, including 10 home runs and 42 runs batted in, both highest totals across both divisions in the JCAA.
Williams says a lot of the physical work he put in for football also helped him become a more potent hitter.
Williams also was electric on the mound, allowing just a 0.82 earned-run average.
But he says none of it is possible without his family and teammates.
Williams will continue to play baseball at John A. Logan.
