New Jefferson County Jail protocols to stop drugs from coming in

(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new system to try to stop drugs and substances from entering the jail. Sheriff Dave Marshak says inmates have been receiving some help from outside sources in certain ways to get narcotics into the facility.

Sheriff Marshak explains the new system of checking the mail to avoid these issues.

Sheriff Marshak says keeping inmates, corrections officers, and staff safe is the top priority.

Other precautions that have helped keep drugs and contraband from entering the jail have been the continued use of the body scanner that was installed a few years ago, as well as patdowns.
