Rock Memorial Beats Festus 3-2
(FESTUS)    Rock Memorial Post 283 put together three runs in the top of the fifth inning Wednesday night to beat Festus Post 253, 3-2 at Jefferson R-7 High School.  The game was broadcast on KJFF 1400AM and mymoinfo.com.
Festus starting pitcher Ian Brown walked three of the first four batters he faced in the fifth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, 283’s Mikey Steele looped a single which fell inside the line, just over the head of Festus first baseman Sam Stokes which tied the score 2-2. In an attempt to throw out the tying runner, the errant throw went to the backstop allowing Austin Faulkner to slide in with the go ahead run.
The winning pitcher for Rock Memorial was Nick Daugherty.  He pitched the full seven, he allowed two runs of which one was earned, he gave up six hits, no walks, he was called for two balks, hit two batters and struck out 13.
Ian Brown pitched six and two thirds.  Allowed three runs of which two were earned. He gave up four hits, walked four and struckout nine.  Nate Moore came on in relief to pitched a third of an inning and he struck out the only man he faced.
Rock manager Danny Sigman complimented his pitcher Nick Daugherty.

Festus Post 253 manager Zac Bone said the team needed to be better at the plate.

Rock Memorial 283 improves to 9-12 while Festus slips to 17-8.
Festus will play two games Thursday in the Mineral Area College Baseball Showcase. Festus faces the Charleston Fighting Squirrels at 9:15am and the  Outlaws Post 189 at 11:15am.  Festus 253 has single games in the Showcase on Friday and Saturday.
Festus received the number one seed in the District 13 Tournament scheduled for Yanks Field in Ste. Genevieve on Tuesday.  They will play 4th seeded Hillsboro at 5pm in the opening round.
Rock is off until the first round of the tourney Tuesday.  Rock is the third seed and will play #3 De Soto SMCI following the Festus vs Hillsboro contest.
