Winch Led North County Girls Hoops to Doe Run Classic Title, Named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Bonne Terre) The North County girls basketball team had a strong showing last week as they went 3-0 and captured the championship of the Doe Run Classic at Herculaneum with a 67-54 win over Lutheran South in the title game.

Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was junior Kamryn Winch who put on a clinic throughout the week en route to being named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

North County girls basketball head coach Joe Arnold says consistency was the key for Winch.

Across the team’s three wins at the Doe Run Classic, Winch averaged 24.6 points per game and 13.3 rebounds.

In the championship game against Lutheran South, she put up 34 points with 22 rebounds.

Arnold says he has seen Winch improve by leaps and bounds over the past few months.

Winch had been a role player for the Lady Raiders over her first few seasons with the team, but now the 6’3″ center has become a focal point of what they want to do on both sides of the ball.

Arnold says despite all the attention paid to Winch by opposing teams, she has still excelled.

As Athlete of the Week, Winch will receive a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
