(HERCULANEUM) The 7th Annual Bruce Thomas Boys Basketball Tournament at Herculaneum High School tips off today with four 1st round games, all on AM 1400 KJFF. The first one features top-seed Hancock versus 8-seed Grandview. Hancock is currently 12-3 while the Grandview Eagles are 5-12.

Hancock Tigers head coach Dan Knox got film of Grandview’s last game against Northwest and took notice of their offense.

Eagles head coach Taylor Hassell thought that the 67-61 overtime win over Northwest was the best game his team has played since he took over the program last year. Coach Hassell hopes to see the same poise from his guys from that win carry over into this game as they will have their hands full with Hancock’s 6’4″ guard Sam Richardson.

Grandview and Hancock get the ball rolling with a 4 p.m. tip today.

Game 2 will feature 4-seed Herculaneum and 5-seed Dupo out of Illinois. The Dupo Tigers are 5-13 while the Blackcats are 7-8.

Blackcats head coach Jason Jarvis needs his team to take better care of the ball if they stand a chance.

Herky and Dupo are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30.

Game 3 of 4 in the Bruce Thomas Tournament on KJFF features 3-seed McKinley and 6-seed Metro. The McKinley Goldbugs are carrying a record of 13-2 into the matchup while Metro will have a 2-8 record going in.

Goldbugs head coach Drew Simmons lets his 8 seniors police themselves sometimes and so far it has proven an effective method.

Metro and McKinley just played Friday with McKinley winning by 5. Tip-off for Metro and McKinley tonight is scheduled for 7.

The final game of the first round pits 2-seed St. Pius against 7-seed Northwest. The St. Pius Lancers are 12-4 while the Lions are 1-13. Lancers head coach Chris Miller says that the focus on defense has truly strengthened other areas of their game.
