Attempted Escape by Inmate Today at Bonne Terre Prison

(Bonne Terre) An investigation is underway after attempted escape today from the Bonne Terre prison.

A news release from the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic, Correctional Center says an unnamed inmate attempted the escape sometime before 11 this morning.

The news release says the inmate allegedly took the keys to a prison maintenance vehicle and tried to escape by ramming the fence near the sally port.

The inmate was apprehended and is now back in custody.

Prison officials say they will release more details when they become available.
