(ANNAPOLIS, Mo.) – Already a member of the top-ranked team in the state at the Class 1 level, senior Michaela Ayers has been awarded the Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy Play It Forward Athlete of the Week Award.

Two victories for the South Iron girls basketball team over Ellington and Arcadia Valley last week saw Ayers at the forefront of the action.

The senior averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in the two contests.

Playing against stars like Tyler Conkright and Gracie Price for Ellington, plus Gracee Smith of Arcadia Valley, we asked Ayers if it meant more to win the award against the high level of competition.

Ayers is the only returning starter from a team that made it to the state quarterfinals last year.

With 6 freshmen on the roster and many of them playing important minutes, Ayers has had to lead from an intangibles standpoint as well.

As part of the award, Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy will donate $25 to a non-profit of Ayers’ choice.

She is selecting the Iron-Madison County Relay For Life.

Along with being Athlete of the Week, Ayers also received a Play It Forward t-shirt and a certificate.

Ayers won this award last season as well.
