Bismarck; Lesterville Advance to Class 2 District 3 Girls Basketball Championship

(LESTERVILLE) The Class 2 District 3 Tournament Semifinals were played Wednesday night at Lesterville High School.  The first game saw the top seed Bismarck Lady Indians face against the fourth seed Chaffee Red Devils.  The game was close throughout the first half, with both teams trading buckets.

Bismarck led 24-16 at the half.  The second half saw more back and forth action, with both teams exchanging leads throughout.  In the end, it was Bismarck that gained separation.

Ashley Hawkins of Bismarck led all scorers with 16 points. Bismarck ended up with a 46-37 win and a berth in the district championship game. Lady Indians head coach Tori Cato says the things her team has been working on showed in the game.

In the second game, second seed Lesterville took on third seed Meadow Heights. Turnovers were an issue for both teams in the first half, and Lesterville was held to just three points in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers would have a ten point lead and firm control at halftime. The second half saw the Lady Bearcats claw back, and a big play in the final minute made a big impact.

Those three points were the only ones scored by Lily Tisdale. They were followed by a Meadow Heights turnover and a quick foul. Zoe St. Gemme would make the go-ahead free throw to put Lesterville up for good. They would go on to win 43-40. Lesterville was led in scoring by Sadie Lloyd, who finished with 15 points. Lady Bearcats head coach Melissa St. Gemme shares the halftime message that lead to her team’s comeback.

Two-seed Lesterville faces top-seed Bismarck for the Class 2 District 3 Championship on Friday. We’ll broadcast the game on J-98 the Boot.
