Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament Day 2 Recap

(Park Hills) The boys finished the first round of the Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament Tuesday at the T.J. Foulon Fieldhouse in Park Hills. #2 South Iron eventually pulled away from #15 DeSoto to win 86-56 . The Dragons were within one point at the end of the first, but South Iron stretched the lead to 15 by the half.

 

Martez Burse scored 23 in the win. He went 11/12 at the free throw line. Gabe Ruble hit six threes and scored 22 points for the Panthers.

Evan McClinton hit 7 threes en route to 23 points for DeSoto.

The Class One top ranked Panthers improve to 10-0. They move to the quarters against Potosi.  DeSoto falls to 3-9 and will play Fredericktown on the consolation side.

#7 Potosi advanced over #10 Fredericktown 68-52. The Trojans built their lead throughout the game; by four at the end of one, by nine at the half and 18 midway through the 3rd. Ty Mills averaged six points per game coming in, but he exploded for 21.

Potosi coach Jackson Conaway says in addition to scoring Ty played a solid all around game

Potosi improves to 8-1. They play Potosi in the quarterfinal. Fredericktown falls to 3-5. They’ll face DeSoto on the consolation side.

(3) Festus took down (14) Crystal City in the third quarterfinal 69-38. The Tigers raced ahead 26-11 in the first quarter and poured it on in the second half leading by as many as 36.

 

Arhmad Branch scored 19 in the win. Logan Cash and Hayden Bates provided 12 points apiece. Cyle Schaumburg scored 12 for the Hornets.

Festus moves into the quarterfinal against Hillsboro at 7-1 . Crystal falls to 6-5 and will play Arcadia Valley.

#6 Hillsboro won the final first round game 84-60 over (11) Arcadia Valley. The Hawks went up-7-1 and never trailed. 10 players scored for the Hawk. Luka Pool averaged 7.3 coming in but blew up for 25 in the win.

Coach Brian Sucharski wanted his team to play faster. He says they got closer…

Jackson Dement anchored the Tigers with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Hillsboro goes to the quarters at 6-2 against Festus. Arcadia Valley, now 5-4 will play Crystal City on the consolation side.
