Boys first-round games begin in Class 3 District 3

The boys get their turn to tip off the Class 3 District 3 tournament in Herculaneum Monday with first-round games that you can hear on AM 1400 KJFF.

The first round starts when the third-seeded Jefferson Bluejays take on the Kingston Cougars.

Jefferson is 13-11 and has four of its last 5 games behind seniors Jon Weik and Hadyn Wagner and junior Colby Ott.

While the Bluejays won a district title a year ago, head coach Sean Breeze says there can be no looking ahead.

Kingston is 9-15 and will try to snap a 4-game losing streak to extend its season.

The second game of the night will see the second-seeded St. Pius Lancers battle the Cuba Wildcats.

St. Pius is 18-7 behind star seniors Riley Naeger, Josh Ruble and Eli Boyer.

But Lancers head coach Chris Miller says Cuba is performing too well of late to take lightly.

Cuba has won 3 straight games to improve to 9-15.

Wildcats head coach Brett Joseph says the turnaround is all about the little things.

Fifth-seeded Herculaneum will lean on senior guard Jordan Duncan his 20 points per game as they try to win their third straight and knock off the Bourbon Warhawks, who are 18-7 but have lost four of their last 6 games.
The final game of the night will see top seed Steelville try to improve on its 22-2 mark when they take on Grandview.
Pregame coverage leading to all 4 games begins at 3:10 Monday afternoon on AM 1400 KJFF.
