Central And Farmington Girls To Play For MAAA Tournament Championship

(Park Hills) Central and Farmington are moving onto the girls championship of the MAAA conference tournament.

Top seed Central led wire-to-wire in their 62-34 victory over five seed North County. The Rebels’ defense proved too much for the Raiders. Central improves to 19-3. North County moves to 11-10.

To close the night, Farmington used a strong second half to defeat West County in a defensive battle, 41-33.

The first half was mostly controlled by West County, as the Bulldogs played good defense and got a buzzer-beating three at the end of the half to lead 21-11.

In the second half, Farmington finally began to generate consistent offense thanks to a mix of inside and outside scoring. The Knights were led by Jade Roth, who scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double.

After the game, Farmington head coach Rusty Sancegraw praised his team’s resilience.

Farmington improves to 19-3 while West County falls to 18-4.

Central and Farmington will play for the conference championship Saturday night at 7 o’clock. North County and West County will meet in the 3rd place game Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Both games will be broadcast on J98.

In other action not broadcast on J98, the Farmington boys defeated North County 62-56 in the 5th place semifinals and Kingston held off West County 43-41. Farmington and Kingston will play for 5th place Saturday evening at 6:30 in Caledonia.
