Central And Potosi Meet Again For Class Four District Two Baseball Championship On KREI

(Ste. Genevieve) Three-hundred-sixty-four days ago, the Central Rebels defeated Potosi 11-3 at Yank’s Field in Ste. Genevieve to win the Class Four District Two championship. Tuesday afternoon, the Rebels and Trojans will run it back and we’ll broadcast the game on AM-800 KREI.

The Rebels are 19-3 and ranked third in the state in Class Four. They beat Herculaneum 6-0 in the semifinals on Monday. Senior Kendall Horton threw a complete game four-hitter. His coach, Ronnie Calvird, said Horton’s command was on point.

Being a state-ranked team and looking for their second straight district title, Calvird isn’t surprised that his team is in this position. Still, he says the kids are fired up.

Potosi enters the game with a record of 10-11 and the two seed in the district. They defeated the host, Ste. Geneveive, 8-4 on Monday. The Trojans scored five runs in the first two innings. Coach Joe Portell says his kids came out of the gate looking to be aggressive.

The Rebels have won both matchups over the Trojans this season, 9-4 back on April 19th, in which Central scored four runs in the top of the seventh, and 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the MAAA tournament. Portell believes anything can happen if the cards fall the right way.

Coverage of Tuesday afternoon’s Class Four District Two championship game at Yank’s Field in Ste. Genevieve begins at 4:45 on AM-800 KREI and MyMoInfo.com. First pitch is at 5 o’clock.
