Crystal City Joining Herculaneum Softball Program

(HERCULANEUM and CRYSTAL CITY)    Girls at Crystal City High School who want to play softball this fall will have an opportunity to do so with Herculaneum. Both Crystal City-47 and Dunklin R-5 school boards have agreed on a co-op arrangement. The co-op also has the blessing of the Missouri State High school Activities Association. Crystal City hasn’t fielded a girls softball team for several years but both of the school’s activities directors, Jason Gillman at Herculaneum and Ken Jones at Crystal City worked together to get the plan in place.

Gillman says Jones at Crystal City originated the idea.

According to Jones, Dunklin R-5 welcomed the idea.

Jones says Crystal City is looking to hire an assistant softball coach for the team.

According to Gillman, the team will still be known as Herculaneum.

Gillman says as an educator, it’s all about giving all students a fair opportunity.

A similar co-op exists in St. Louis where Hancock joined up with Bishop Dubourg to be able to provide a football opportunity for its students.
