DeSoto, Hillsboro do it in different fashions to advance to Class 5 District 1 semis

(Festus) The DeSoto Dragons won a pitchers’ duel and the Hillsboro Hawks made a statement as both teams advanced the Class 5 District 1 semifinals with wins Tuesday night on KJFF.

In the first quarterfinal, DeSoto topped Cape Central.

One swing from a DeSoto junior provided all the offense the Dragons would need.

Jacob Foster would also get the 4-out save to close the door for DeSoto on his way to being one of the Applebee’s of Farmington Players of the Game.

That save came after the other spun a gem for the Dragons on the mound.

Caleb Coleman allowed just 1 hit in 5 2/3 innings pitched and struck out 9 to help DeSoto improve to 9-13.

In the second game Tuesday night, Hillsboro knocked off the Farmington Knights 12-0 in 6 innings.

Hawks sophomore Gavin Hite was the star of the show, first for his work on the mound.

After cranking a 2-run double earlier in the game, Hite finished off the win with his bat.

Hite finished with 5 strikeouts on the bump and 5 RBI at the plate on his way to Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Hillsboro improves to 8-14 and will face the Festus Tigers in the Class 5 District 1 semifinals, while DeSoto will take on the Windsor Owls.
