EPA Extends Comment Period in Jefferson County
(HILLSBORO)    The Environmental Protection Agency is extending its public comment period until Friday August 4th regarding EPA’s Proposed Plan to address lead exposure in Jefferson County.  The EPA held a public meeting July 11th at Festus High School sharing its proposed options for lead remediation in private, domestic drinking water wells at residential properties, including childcare facilities, within the “Southwest Jefferson County Mining Superfund Site”.
Brieanne Zwiener, Public Information Officer for the Jefferson County Health Department says the EPA wants to expand its well-water testing.

According to Zwiener, the health department is working in partnership with the EPA to provide education on the dangers of lead exposure. Zwiener says the health department was able to test several children at the July 11th public meeting.
