Festus, Central sew up rematch in Steighorst semis on KJFF

(Hillsboro) The Central Rebels and Festus Tigers have a rematch coming after both teams won in the Steighorst Invitational quarterfinals Tuesday on KJFF.

Central won the first game of the night 71-48 over the Windsor Owls.

While star sophomore guard Jobe Bryant was his typical brilliant self with a game-high 20 points, one of the Central big men stepped up in a big way.

Sophomore forward Zack Boyd finished with 14 points off the bench and was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Rebels head coach Brad Gross says Boyd provided them with an opportunity on offense.

While Windsor falls to 3-2, Central has started the season 2-0.

In the second quarterfinal, Festus knocked off the Northwest Lions 56-39.

On a night where both teams struggled to find offense, one of the Festus forwards provided just what the Tigers needed.

Senior Eric Ruess scored a game-high 17 points to lead Festus to the win.

Tigers head coach Jason Therrell was very complimentary of the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Festus improves to 2-1 and will try to avenge their loss to Central when the Tigers meet the Rebels Friday night in the semifinals.

Northwest falls to 2-2 and will be back in action Wednesday.

The Steighorst Inviational continues with the Hillsboro Hawks meeting the DeSoto Dragons and Windsor taking on Northwest in the consolation bracket.

Coverage starts at 5:15 Wednesday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.
