Festus doctor caught in healthcare fraud scheme sentenced to prison

A Festus doctor with offices in Farmington is headed to prison.

Antoine Adem, M.D. and his company, Midwest Cardiovascular, Inc, were sentenced Friday in federal court for defrauding his patients.

Adem and his company submitted or caused to be submitted several false claims Medicare and Missouri Medicaid that gave the company almost $2,000 more per patient.

The total came out to over $149,000 in fraudulent profits.

Adem will serve a 45-day prison sentence and pay restitution and fines of over $200,000.

Midwest Cardiovascular is on probation for 3 years and also pay restitution and fines.
