Festus’ Shaver talks district wrestling title, Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Festus) Festus Tigers wrestler Luke Shaver can add Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week to the many accolades he’s racking up.

The senior preserved an undefeated season and won the Class 3 District 1 championship by defeating a fellow 2020 state medalist in Farmington’s Judd Cunningham at 182 pounds.

But for Shaver, anything less than winning is not on the table.

Shaver was one of 4 Festus wrestlers who moved to the Class 3 state sectionals.

He says it’s almost more exciting to see teammates like Austin Neff and Andrew Nahlik succeed than his own victories.

But despite a 40-0 record this season, a 91-2 record since 2019 and a third-place finish in the state last year, Shaver is still missing the thing he wants most: a state championship.

And he admits the thought at the front of his mind right now is finishing the job.

Shaver returns to the mat for Class 3 sectionals at Hillsboro on February 27th.

As Athlete of the Week, he receives a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
