Former Jefferson College Player Tim Gray Reminisces on Return of Viking Basketball

(ARNOLD)    Jefferson College will introduce its new men’s basketball program Wednesday evening at the Jefferson College Fieldhouse against the Blue Storm of Southwestern Illinois College. We’ll have the game on KJFF 1400AM and mymoinfo.com beginning with the Flieg’s Equipment Program at 6 and tip-off is set for 7pm.

Former Jefferson College Viking Tim Gray played at Jeffco from 1978-1980 for coach Mark Bernsen. Gray graduated in 1978 from Northwest High school.

After two years at Jefferson and two more years as an under-grad at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, Gray became an assistant basketball coach at Mineral Area College. Gray says it was a sad day when Jeffco ended the men’s basketball program in 1987.

According to Gray, it was exciting to play at Jefferson in front of friends and family.

Gray achieved global notoriety through the 1994 movie “Hoop Dreams”. The documentary film followed Chicago high school players Arthur Agee and William Gates as they pursued their dreams of playing professional basketball. Gray was in the film as he was recruiting the two men to play at Mineral Area College.
These days, Gray is a minister at the Arnold church “City on a Hill”.
