Fredericktown Football Starts New Era Under Coach Steve Williams

The Fredericktown Blackcats went 3-7 last season, and enter this one with a new head coach. Steve Williams will command the sidelines this year, and he has already learned some key information about his new team.

With only six seniors, it is advantageous that the team has an experienced junior and sophomore class. Coach Williams is going to lean on the experience of his team to help with the transition into a new system.

It helps that many of these players have seen a varsity field, and know the expectations hat come with playing on Friday nights.

Coach Williams has also entrusted his team with an early leadership role. The Blackcats tried the concept of “team houses,” and the players bought in.

Schematically, Fredericktown plans to run a spread-hybrid offense, which depends on versatile skill players and agile offensive linemen. The defense will feature a four-man front, and entrusts the linebacker group to do the bulk of the tackling. The team’s consistent attendance has helped the team with picking up the system.

Coach Williams has high hopes for the team this season, and guarantees a tough bunch will hit the field every Friday.

The Blackcats will visit Jefferson for the season opener on August 25th. You can listen to the game on J98 The Boot.
