Herculaneum matches record with boys’ cross country crown at state

(Herculaneum) The Herculaneum Blackcats have long been cross country royalty in the state of Missouri.

Earlier this month, the kings reclaimed their crown.

Herculaneum won the Class 3 boys’ team state championship on November 6th, tying West Plains with a record 13th team state title all-time.

Blackcats head coach Kyle Davis says it was thrilling to carry on the tradition of excellence.

Despite having just the one state medalist in junior Keith Vance, the Blackcats’ top 5 runners all finished with a top-40 time and ran the course in almost 17-and-a-half minutes.

Herky managed to post a team score of 95, finshing 27 points ahead of second-place Maryville.

Davis says they knew, in order to achieve that, it would take a true group effort.

But Davis also feels it was inevitable that his program would return to the top of the mountain because of people past and present who give a lot to Herculaneum cross country.

The Blackcats also qualified as a team for the girls’ state meet and finished eighth in Class 3.
