(LEADWOOD) The Herculaneum and West County baseball teams have advanced to the Class 3 District 3 Championship Game.

The 5th-seeded Blackcats upset top-seed Jefferson 2-1 Tuesday afternoon on AM 1400 KJFF. Herky scored its second run of the game in the 3rd inning off of a two-out double from catcher Cole Myers.

That run wound up making the difference and then Herky’s Jordan Duncan finished off the Blue Jays with Shannon Dowd at the dish.

Blackcats head coach Zac Bone says that he always believed his guys had it in them to win a game like this…

Herky improves its record to 12-9-1 and Jefferson finishes the season at 18-4.

In our second semifinal of the afternoon, the second-seeded West County Bulldogs blanked the third-seeded and fourth-ranked team in the state, St. Pius, by a final of 4-0.

Pitching was the story of the game, but our Patsy’s Furniture Play of the Game came on a drawn up play in the 2nd inning that acted as the go-ahead run for the Bulldogs.

Our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game was junior starting pitcher Dakota Dowd for West County, who recorded a complete game shutout and double-digit strikeouts. Here was the final out of the game.

Bulldogs head coach John Simily talks about the decision to go with Dowd on the mound.

St. Pius sees their season end with a 17-3 record while West County moves to 19-6 and will battle Herculaneum for the Class 3 District 3 title. You can listen to the call Wednesday afternoon on AM 1400 KJFF with the Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show beginning at 3:45.
