Herky baseball rides fast start to win over Jefferson

(Herculaneum) The Herculaneum Blackcats jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back in a 9-2 victory over the Jefferson Blue Jays Tuesday on KJFF.

A huge first inning propelled Herculaneum to an advantage they would never relinquish.

The Blackcats scored 6 runs total in the first. Junior pitcher Dylan Black took it from there.

Black struck out six through the first 3 innings, ultimately allowing 7 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The right-hander says he rarely feels uncomfortable on the mound with such a strong lineup around him.

Senior third baseman Cody Gibson finished with 3 hits and was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

He says Herky’s fourth win in the last 6 games proves the team is turning a corner.

Herculaneum improves to 3-1 in conference play and 5-6-1 overall.

Jefferson falls to 1-1 in the JCAA Small-School Division and 6-9 in total.
