(IMPERIAL) The Hillsboro baseball Hawks are district champions for the first time since 2011, claiming the Class 5 District 1 crown after defeating Seckman 8-6 on Thursday in Imperial.

Dayton Hoelter was on the mound for the Hawks as they began the bottom of the 7th inning up 8-4. That’s when Head Coach Kevin Lucas says things got interesting.

For Coach Lucas, it was a pretty awesome feeling to see his guys get to celebrate a district championship.

Hillsboro beat tournament top-seed Jackson in the semifinals, 8-6, as well. Seckman finishes the 2019 season with a 19-11 record and a conference championship.

The 14-6 Hillsboro Hawks are on to the Class 5 Sectionals to face Vianney, the 9th-ranked team in the state, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hillsboro High School. KJFF will be calling the game beginning at 1:45 with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show.
