(HILLSBORO) Hillsboro wrestling is once again led by Matt Mitchell who is in his 3rd year running the program. Success from 2018 has followed some of the boys into 2019.

Dalton Litzsinger as a freshman reached state last year and so far as a sophomore is undefeated through the first three weeks of the season. Aside from winning matches, Coach Mitchell is getting even more out of Dalton this year.

Grouped into the freshman category is Griffin Ray of the 145-pound weight class. Coach Mitchell talks about Griffin’s and Dalton’s relationship.

Aidan Haggard, Jordan Jarvis, Gavin Alexander, Evan Morris, James Short, and Zach McNees kind of round out the Hillsboro wrestlers on the boy’s side.

Great news for girls wrestling is that the Class 1 District 1 Tournament in early February will be hosted by Hillsboro. Those dates are February 7th and 8th. Coach Mitchell starts the conversation about the five-member girls’ team with Grace Johnson and Mikalyn Barciszewski.

Rounding out the Hillsboro girls squad are Marissa Hudman, Joey Madding, and Kaitlyn Hindle.

The next wrestling meet on the girls’ schedule is Saturday at the Mehville Tournament. The next one for the boys is next Friday and Saturday with the Don Furhmann Duals at Hillsboro High School.
