(Hillsboro) The Hillsboro Hawks were Jefferson County’s best girls’ soccer team in 2019.

But times are changing, especially with a full season off the boards because the coronavirus pandemic.

New head coach Sam Nansel is starting from scratch, but he likes what is in place.

Hillsboro will return starting goalkeeper MacKenzie Baker from the team that went 14-8-1 two years ago.

And Nansel believes he has some new stars ready to emerge.

But despite a lot of fresh faces and a schedule he admits is challenging, Nansel is not thinking small for what he wants the Hawks to accomplish.

Hillsboro hosts conference and county rival Festus to open the 2021 season on Friday.
