(HILLSBORO) The Mississippi Area Red Conference crown belongs to Hillsboro as the Hawks defeated the DeSoto Dragons 27-12 on Homecoming Night on AM 1400 KJFF.

Hillsboro opened the scoring in the 1st quarter as freshman running back Jaxin Patterson took it in from 5-yards out and sophomore Tyler Watson converted the two-point try. DeSoto responded nicely with a Fischer-to-Fischer connection as quarterback Briar found his brother Levi in the endzone. The failed two-point conversion left the score at 8-6 Hawks in the 1st.

An Austin Perez touchdown run and another converted two-point try and the Hawks led 16-6 in the first half. A few minutes later, Fischer got his 2nd touchdown pass of the night for the Dragons.

Hillsboro then ended the first half with a Mark Moore 33-yard field goal as time expired. At 19-12 Hillsboro late in the 3rd, Patterson sealed the win for the Hawks with a run of 3 yards.

Hillsboro head coach Lee Freeman addressed Jaxin Patterson’s 218-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance and the offensive unit as a whole.

The win for the Hawks pushes their record to 3-4 as they get set for Class 5 powerhouse Jackson at home. The loss for the Dragons ends their 4-game winning streak as they go back to the drawing board and get ready to host Ste. Genevieve next week.
