Hillsboro man injured in motorcycle crash, now faces additional charges

(Hillsboro) A Hillsboro man who was involved in a motorcycle crash this week, in which the motorcycle was stolen, now faces several additional charges. 33-year-old Michael Ortega crashed the stolen Suzuki motorcycle on June 28th and was hospitalized with serious injuries. The Missouri Highway Patrol charged him with Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. However, Ortega has been charged for crimes committed on June 25th stemming from a robbery of the Tishomingo Quick Stop. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Spokesman Grant Bissell shared details from the robbery.

Once, Sheriff’s Office Detectives learned of Ortega being hospitalized, they were able to take the next step to gather evidence.

Bissell says they placed Ortega under arrest at Mercy Hospital South.

Ortega was charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree. He also faces a charge from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Ortega, who is a convicted felon, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wanted to commend the outstanding work of a dedicated team of crimefighters.
