(CAPE GIRARDEAU) The 2019 fall softball season for the Hillsboro Hawks came to an end on Wednesday) on AM 1400 KJFF as the Cape Notre Dame Bulldogs beat them 6-2 in the Class 3 Sectional Round.

The game was scoreless through the first two frames as sophomore righty Elly Eckrich had struck out 3 of the first 7 batters. It was with two outs in the top of the 3rd and runners on where the Bulldogs broke through with a double.

After the Bulldogs extended their lead out to 6-0 in the 6th, the Hillsboro offense finally got rid of the goose egg.

That was all the Hawks could muster as Cape Notre Dame advanced to the Class 3 Quarterfinals for the 4th time in the last 5 years. Hillsboro Head Coach Kevin Lucas says that this year’s group of seniors has been extremely influential over the years.

The 20 wins this season for the Hawks is the 4th time they’ve achieved that mark in as many years as Coach Lucas has been the head coach.
