Hillsboro Trying To Keep Existing Sales Tax In Place For HPD

(Hillsboro) The City of Hillsboro is trying to get the word out to keep an existing sales tax in place when voters go to the polls in April. Proposition Police will be on the election ballot for those living in the Hillsboro city limits. Hillsboro Mayor Buddy Russell says this tax first went into effect several years ago and the residents need to vote to keep it going, otherwise funding for the police department will diminish

Hillsboro Police Chief Steve Meinberg says trying to keep their efforts ongoing would be affected if it doesn’t pass.

Chief Meinberg says they will lose three paid positions if the issue fails.

Hillsboro Police is already operating a few positions down from being fully staffed, but are in the process of hiring now. Proposition Police for those living in the Hillsboro City limits which will extend the current sales tax will need a simple majority to pass in April.
