A historic season for the Hillsboro Hawks required a historic player.

Regional Radio volleyball Dream Team member Mackenzie Baker was an all-around force for the Hawks on their way to a conference championship and the first district title for the program since 1997.

But Baker admits there’s a unique twist to her journey.

A promise to fellow senior Sophia Marchetti paid off.

Baker shined in her final season as an outside hitter for the Hawks with 225 kills, 56 blocks and 36 aces, all team highs.

But Baker also says everything Hillsboro accomplished was a combined effort for a group she loved to be with.

And, while she has plenty of people in her corner, Baker says one in particular has been her rock.

Baker paced a Hillsboro team that had 5 different players with at least 100 kills.
