Hillsboro’s Romaine to Play Football at Kansas State

(Hillsboro) One of the top football players in Jefferson County will continue his career at the NCAA Division I level. Hillsboro Hawks senior Austin Romaine committed to play football at Kansas State University earlier this month. He says getting to know the Wildcats’ staff convinced him that Manhattan, Kansas was the place for him to be.

Romaine has been a star for the Hawks on both sides of the ball, piling up over 2,200 yards from scrimmage for the Hillsboro offense since 2020. But became a truly dominant defensive player last season. The all-state linebacker finished with 100 tackles in 2021, including 22 tackles for loss and 8 sacks. He says playing linebacker at K-State is going to make him feel right at home.

Hillsboro started the new football season with a 49-14 win over Sikeston Friday, including 2 touchdown runs and 9 tackles for Romaine. He says getting to continue that career after high school is something special, and something he couldn’t do on his own.

Hillsboro battles Cape Central this Friday night, while Kansas State opens their 2022 season by hosting South Dakota Saturday evening.
