Hillsboro’s Wright returns to girls’ track Dream Team with more hardware

(Hillsboro) Maya Wright walks away from her time with the Hillsboro Hawks as one of the most accomplished track and field athletes in program history.

The 4-time state medalist earned her second selection to the Regional Radio Dream Team after competing in 7 different events this season.

But Wright says this final honor is definitely high on her list of accomplishments.

Along with taking part in the high jump and long jump, Wright was one of the top hurdles runners in the state.

The senior finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles after winning conference, district and sectional championships in those races.

She also set a school record for the 100-meter hurdles, which she says was fitting cap to her track & field journey.

And Wright ran a heat on 2 different relay teams that brought home district, sectional and state medals.

That includes a fifth-place finish in the 4-by-400 at the Class 4 state championships.

She says staying busy at any given meet is part of preparing for the next leg of her journey at Missouri S&T.

Wright was the 2022 JCAA girls’ track MVP after winning conference titles in both hurdles races, bringing her career total to 4 conference championships and 4 district championships.
