Iron County Man to Learn Date of Murder Trial Days before Christmas

(Ironton) An Iron County man, accused of shooting and killing another man in Iron County, continues to have his trial setting pushed back.

21-year-old McCoy Kelley of Annapolis will now find out when his murder trial will be on December 20th when he appears at the courthouse in Ironton.

Kelley allegedly killed 30-year-old William “Billy” Shy at his home off Highway 49 in Vulcan back in early August of 2020.

A news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Department said deputies found Shy dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses say Kelley knocked on Shy’s door…Shy opened the front door and that’s when Kelley allegedly shot Shy several times, killing him.

Kelley eventually turned himself into the sheriff’s department after being on the run for a few days after the murder.

Kelley is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He could get the death penalty if found guilty of the murder charge.
