(FESTUS) The Jefferson Blue Jays are Jefferson County Small Schools Conference champions for the first time since 2014, knocking off four-time defending champion St. Pius 9-6 on Monday on KJFF. With the game even at 1-1 in the 2nd, St. Pius’ Dustin Burch untied the knot.

The Lancers were up 6-3 in the top of the 6th when Jefferson’s Andrew Graves pulled through with the bases loaded.

Graves then scored from 2nd base on a fielding error by the 2nd baseman. Two batters later and with two men on, Blue Jays right fielder Tommy Moon helped extend the lead.

In the bottom of the 7th, St. Pius had the tying run at the plate in the form of catcher Noah Lampros.

Head coach Robert Kuehnle shares his thoughts on being conference champs.

The winning pitcher was Jacob Melton. The Blue Jays improve to 15-3. The Lancers suffered their first loss of the season and fall to 14-1. Jefferson will next face St. Charles this weekend while St. Pius will take on Perryville on Friday.
