Jefferson County Concerns With Illegal Immigrants
(HILLSBORO) While the Missouri National Guard and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol were dispatched to Texas to help with securing the Mexican border, Jefferson County law enforcement agencies will be in discussions about how to handle situations with illegal immigrants in the area. Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak says this has become a problem all over the country.
There was a situation several weeks ago in which a bus was trying to unload what was believed to be illegal immigrants at the Loves truck stop in Herculaneum. The persons did get back on the bus and left the area. Sheriff Marshak says what if this happens again.
Jefferson County District 4 county councilman and council chair Charles Groeteke says the council may take further steps.
The Jefferson County Council voted 4-2 back in December on a resolution to “oppose the importation of illegal immigrants in Jefferson County.” Sheriff Marshak says this topic and others will be discussed when he and other area law enforcement leaders meet next month.
