Jefferson County Council approves first reading of recreational marijuana tax

(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Council approved the introduction of the proposed tax on the sale of recreational marijuana. It was approved at the council meeting on Monday night. County Executive Dennis Gannon says they are also getting close to deciding how to use the monies generated from the tax.

Gannon says as of now, they are planning to stack the 3% tax onto the taxes already in place by the municipalities.

There has been ongoing litigation from other areas of the state claiming that stacking the taxes implemented by both the cities and counties should not be allowed. If and when the ballot language has been finalized it will be placed on the April election ballot and will need a simple majority to pass.
